Where we’re going, we don’t need roads” - Doc, Back To The Future.
Do you think work as we know it is changing? We do.
It feels like there is a big shift going on.
Or maybe we are just spending too much time looking at inspirational quotes on Instagram.
So many women we speak to genuinely want to do something they care about.
Work and life are getting much closer. For some people they are making sweet love.
And we think that’s just great.
We believe in a future of work where there are open discussions between you and your managers about what you really want out of life.
Where you can tell them that you want to work in Singapore/HK/New York/India in the next few years.
Or that you want experience in another industry.
Or that you want to have a bub.
And they’re cool with it. Because they know you are much more valuable to them with that international experience, that accounting training, a balanced life.
Some companies get it already.
And it works for everyone.
We were chatting to Nicole Miran-Khan from Lululemon about this very topic the other day. Her role is recruiting awesome people and her title is ‘People Magnet’, which is just awesome in itself. Nicole was explaining a goal setting exercise Lulu do with staff, where they share their goals with the whole team (actually sticking goal sheets on the walls of the office).
She said “It works both ways, our employees are happy because we are helping them achieve their goals and we’re happy because our employees are engaged and honest with us about where they want to be. They feel loyalty to us and we feel loyalty to them.”
Don’t know about you but we have never worked anywhere were we felt like we could share our REAL goals with our bosses.
Maybe that’s our fault. Maybe we never tried.
Life and work are not separate. That they ever really have been is an illusion.
And more and more people seem to be coming to this realisation. More companies too.
Maybe the future of work is closer than we think?
